Well I didn't want to jinx things and post we were home until we passed the 5 day home mark. But yes, we were back at the hospital again. Tom has been
admitted 7 times now since July 17th.
He is slowly getting better, I think. He is still having trouble with nausea and keeping any food down. He's still weak and still losing weight, but he is on a walker and a cane and can get up and down by himself slowly. He still has his sense of humor and his spirit of this whole thing is temporary and he will be better soon. In the past week we have had lots of company, my son and his family, Tom's Sister and her husband from St. Louis, Tom's Brother (they almost look identical) and his wife from California, Tom's Daughter, her husband, two kids, and a retriever, from Wisconsin (the kids were a great diversion, I enjoyed spending time playing games with them until the wee hours. ) My wonderful son in law and grandson cleaned the garage, hung some towel racks, put a martin house up and a bunch of things Tom had on his to do list. What a blessing! Next week is full of doctor appoints and hopefully Tom can get his fixator off. A Physical therapist comes a few times a week to help Tom get his strength back so we are busy busy around here lol. Whew........ Jen |

This is totally unbelievable........
Last night Tom fell and hit his head. He started blacking out and giving me stares and acted as if he couldn't communicate. He couldn't. Then this morning his legs wouldn't work. They couldn't hold him up at all. Again more of those spacey stares. I called the ambulance .... They transferred him to Memphis. He had a subdural hematoma (brain bleeding). If they stop the bleeding it will undo the last stent. If they don't stop the bleeding it will be fatal. We had to make some tough decisions today. The doctors start about now (11) doing transfusions. Even the doctors are nervous over this. Please put Tom back in your prayers. |

Today the doctor said they are trying to put off surgery until at least 10 days to give the mush / blood time to liquify. It's in a bad place and too risky
now to operate.
Doctor said he had rather just cut two holes in the skull instead of remove a large portion in his condition. So, we wait. He is all doped up and is only aware a few minutes between shots. You can nudge him to get him to say a couple of words. The best thing is keep him quiet and in the dark (light and noise sensative). Thank you for your prayers. |

Friday - Today Tom was more"awake" and asking for his shots less often. He's still has the drug effects (doing funny things and saying funny
things). He did eat a banana today first food in almost a week.
The doctors have been wonderful. One who was on vacation called my cell last night just to check in. I must say I have been impressed with the care he has received as this is our visit experience with him outside of the VA network. The Cat Scans are not showing progression of the bleed. Good thing. |
