Jen, I just got home from Tunica and saw your post about Tom. Please let him know that he is in Jerry and my thoughts and prayers. I've had the ICD
defibrillator/pacemaker put in about 2 yrs. ago and it has made a world of difference in me. I have so much more energy now. The recovery time is short and
definitely worth the benefits. Just tell Tom to hang in there and follow the dr's instructions. I remember the day I had the procedure done, a nurse said
"Happy Birthday" to me. I asked her why she did that. She said "because today is the new beginning of your life and you are going to want to
remember this date. It's the day the Dr. gave you your life back." I hope things go well for Tom now. Please continue to let us know how he is doing.
Hugs, Pam |

Hi Jen,
Just came over to the Tunica Board to see if there was any news. It sounds like with the help of you and your 4 year old assistant doctor, he is coming along slowly. He is one tough guy. Please know that all of us over on Casinos One will be thinking of you and Tom. |

Wow! Thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes.
We need some more if you can. Tom has had a set back and is back in ICU step down. He's bleeding internally and tomorrow the docs are going to try and find the leak. We went thru this about 2 years ago 21 units of blood and 12 days before the bleed stopped. This time he has some extra issues going on in addition to this, so it's tough. He won't be making it to Biloxi for sure now. Please Pray for him. Jen |

We just got home.
I put Tom to bed. He is so happy to be home. The bleeding stopped and his hematocrit went to 31. (they gave him blood) and took him off a bunch of meds. He's still weak and real nauseated and has trouble eating, but now maybe he can get better. It is so amazing how in the last 24 hours he has rallied so well. I believe in prayer, and we thank you ever so much. Tom's a gambler and when the doc said he had to make a decision and gave him two choices. 1) stop the blood thinners and risk a stroke 2) take the blood thinners and continue to bleed. He felt the best thing was to go for no blood thinners. He said having a stroke is not in his plans and took those odds. When a doctor or nurse came in with that worried look he would just tell them to chill out, it wasn't his time to go and to quit worrying. That's the same thing he told the EMT's this last time in the ambulance too. The man has an unbelievable faith, and attitude. The girls on the floor actually said they were going to miss him, but that didn't mean he had to come back (again), they would just run into him at the casinos or at Walmart. lol. I am so grateful for our friends here and so appreciative for all the prayers and well wishes. Jen |

Jen,
That's the best news in a long time. I know Tom must be glad to be home. I'm sure with your good nursing he'll continue to get better. Meanwhile, we'll keep on praying. Linda |

Jen, what wonderful news. Now the man can get some good stuff to eat. That always made me feel better. Being home and eating mama's cooking is the best
medicine a man can get. We will keep him in our prayers and hope for a speedy recovery.

Today Tom went back in ICU CC. His blood pressure is extremely low.
the lowest it got was 48/28. When I left they had gotten it up to 90/50 but it kept dipping down. Tonight he is having tests to see if he has a blood clot in his lungs. If that is not the cause the doctor thinks it may be his meds. This will be his 4th hospital admit since July 19th. Thanks for all the prayers. Jen |

Oh Jen...I am so sorry to hear that. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself, too...I know all this stress isn't good
for your own health.

Jen:
Positive thoughts, lots of prayers, and big hugs are sent for the both of you. Hopefully the low blood pressure is the medicine and the doctor's can get Tom's blood pressure to where it shoud be. Carol |

Lots of positive thoughts and prayers for Tom and you too. At times I think it is almost harder on the caregiver than the person who is ill/hurt.

Thanks,
I just noticed I haven't updated over here on this board. I got to bring Tom home Monday night. The nurse still comes every other day now to dress his arm. (I do it on the odd days). She keeps up with his vitals. We were in such high hopes of the defib making things easier on him. It's doing it's job but his nausea and dizziness are still with him pretty bad. The days and nights seem to run together and I really meant to post something before now. He is getting up every hour and walks around the house for 5 minutes with a cane. This is actually more than he was doing before he went in the hospital so I am happy to see that. He's still pretty chipper and full of laughs. The doctor sent a monitor which sends his heart info to the office. He had one before that did his weight and BP but this thing sits next to his bed and scans his ICD wirelessl during the night. Amazing how far medicine has come. I saw a prototype of this 15 years ago and had forgotten about it. We so appreciate all the cards, and emails. I apologize if you have called or emailed me and I haven't answered. I will. Sometimes I just can't get to the phone and my computer time is so short. We so appreciate all of you. Jen |

Jen, just out of curiosity, do they have Tom on a medication called Coreg? They had me on it after my defib was installed and it made me so sick with nausea
and dizziness. They switched the med and I was fine then. Just a thought, but talk to the dr. about the meds. That may be the problem.
