Tunica RiverPark Captures New Exhibit
Local Mississippi River Photography Now on Display in Museum Tunica, Mississippi (December 8, 2008)-Come take a ride down the Mississippi River through Tom Sawyer's eyes at the Tunica RiverPark museum now through April 1st as part of a new exhibit. "We are thrilled the DeSoto Camera Club is allowing us to borrow this photography exhibit," Jerlene Rhodes, executive director of the Tunica RiverPark, said. "The exhibit is called 'Tom Sawyer's River Today'. It depicts the beauty of life, architecture, and views along the Mississippi River, including shots taken in Tunica." According to the DeSoto Camera Club, they know that the exhibit is a very important part of preserving history in this area by capturing it in its natural element. "Now visitors from around the world can see this phenomenal exhibit in the museum, along with the interactive exhibits, large aquariums, an observation deck overlooking the Mississippi River, and sightseeing and dinner cruises on the Tunica Queen," Rhodes explained. Members of the DeSoto Camera Club traveled for five months up and down the Mississippi River as it flows along the State of Mississippi. Hundreds of images were captured, and 150 were selected and prepared for exhibition. "It is free to see this exhibit because we are housing it in our lobby, and to tour our museum is only $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for children, senior citizens, and groups," Rhodes said. Since its 2004 opening, the Tunica RiverPark and museum has won the Southeast U.S. and Mississippi's Travel Attraction of the Year in 2005, along with eight other national and regional awards, including several architectural awards. Overlooking the Mississippi River from a harbor on the eastern bank, the $26 million Tunica RiverPark is an attraction visitors shouldn't miss. Located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, it is an extensive and one-of-a-kind interactive, interpretive museum that showcases the life of the river and its history, featuring aquariums, ecotrails and river boat cruises. The Tunica RiverPark is available for events and is open year round to the public. The Tunica RiverPark is open daily, except for Christmas Day. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Nature Trail and Park are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets to the museum are $5 for adults, $4 for children age 12 and under, and $4 for seniors age 65 and older. Group rates are available. For more information, call 866-517-4837 (toll free) or visit the website at www.tunicariverpark.com. The Tunica Queen sails six days a week with two sightseeing cruises daily and a dinner cruise nightly April through November. For more information, or to book a group, call the Tunica Queen office at 1-866-805-3535, or visit www.tunicaqueen.com. |

If anyone has never been to the museum its worth the admission. We have also been on the Tunica Queen, its a fun thing to do also. You can pay for both of
these and come out cheaper then you would if you had spent the same amount of time in the casino.

Thanks for that one. I'm a Twain enthusiast so comparing the modern to what he presented would be fun.
I thought I'd have to go to Hannable Missouri for Twain on my trip up the river. Does the paddle boat make any mention of Twain?

Dewey, you will enjoy the museum its a history of the river, I don't remember if Mark was mentioned on the river boat or not, but I am sure he was. How
could there be a boat on the river with out mentioning him. I know I was thinking about reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and their trip down the
river when I was out there.

Probably a better book to get Twain's sense of the river is Life on the Mississippi. Thanks for the info.
