My trip to Tunica was fun, fun, fun!
We stayed at the Gold Strike since they gave us Casino rates of $40/night for the 3 nights. It was a great place to stay since we could walk to both the
Horseshoe and Sheraton Casinos. We arrived on Sunday around 2 pm and were able to check into our room - which was a clean non smoking room with a King size
bed (and yes the small tv). We headed to the casino (Gold Strike) played for several hours and then walked over to the Horseshoe to check it out since we
weren't doing any good there. I got on a penny machine and bet 40 cents and hit a bonus round and then kept rehitting it and ended up with 60 free spins
and cashed out at $113. Now, that was fun! We played for awhile and then got hungry so from learning what I've read here - we headed for the Casino Host
area and got comps for 2 buffets for dinner. The buffet was great (or else I was just very hungry from not eating that day and the excitement of playing). We
then headed back to Gold Strike again and still with no luck after awhile went back to the Horseshoe. My husband and I sat down at at a couple of machines and
after I had hit it a couple of times; a casino host came up behind me and called my name and said we would like to offer you two comps to eat with us.....so
breakfast buffet the next morning was taken care of! I was getting to really like the Horseshoe!
On Monday, we drove to Memphis to check out a couple of things there and then headed back to visit other casinos. We visited Resorts, Fitz, Harrahs and
Samstown. We played a neat Wizard of Oz machine on the 2nd Floor. It was awesome. If you hit a bonus the sound would come through the chair and it vibrated.
My husband won $80 on it. I played a Wolf's Run machine and not paying attention hit the max play button for $3 a shot and when I realized it - was very
happy - hit something and cashed out $109. Of course - in time I played it back into other machines I was checking out. Well, it was time for dinner so
thought I would try my luck at getting comped for a couple of buffets - no such luck at Samstown - in fact they were rather rude. Needless to say, we took our
money back to the Goldstrike and Horseshoe. We did get comps for the food court at the Goldstrke. It was late and we didn't really want ALL the food from
the buffet. It was nice and quiet in the foodcourt and there were several folks on their laptops since they have free wireless in that area. After dinner, we
sat at the bar and played there. We were going to go to the Horseshoe but the rain was coming down so hard we stayed at the GS. As we were sitting there, all
the lights went off. Can you imagine sitting in a casino and it goes pitch black and no sound? It was only about 30 seconds and then the generators kicked
on. We all yelled "what happend to our royal flush?! The electricity was off in the hotel rooms for approximately an hour. I heard later from someone
that Harrah's evaculated everyone out of their casino for an hour or two.
On Tuesday - we had yet another comp buffet for breakfast at the Horseshoe. After breakfast, I decided to try the same machine I played previously and low and
behold, I hit it again and received 42 free spins and cashed out at $98. What a way to start the day. Today, we headed into the town of Tunica to check out
some of the fishing areas. My husband isn't big into the casino scene so if we found places he could fish we could visit more often. Lucky for me, we
found a couple of good places that would work. So, then we were off to check out the Hollywood Casino. The Hollywood was very interesting to walk around and
check out the motiff and movie artifacts that they had. We played for several hours but didn't do much there. We then headed back to the Goldstrike to
play. We ate dinner at the Goldstrike buffet which were comped
Time to go home - On Wednesday, after our comped breakfast buffet at the Goldstrke, I played for a little while and then headed to the Casino Host to see if I
could get any of my hotel comp. They comped 2 nights so in all - we never paid for any food; and only $40 (+$4tax) for the room. It was alot of fun and I
hope to return real soon. In all our suitcases were a little lighter - we left approx $300.
All in all the trip was great! I enjoyed staying at the Goldstrike since it was so close to both the Sheraton and Horseshoe. The Horseshoe comps seemed to be
the easiest to get. Samstown was fun to play at and was very quiet and not nearly as crowed as the rest of the casinos. Harrah's was very busy and
crowded.
I appreciate all the information that everyone has posted on this site - it helped make me so much smarter and my trip so much better!
