Since joining this forum, I've read various accounts of scam artists who "work" the casinos. Maybe if we share our stories, we can be more
vigilant, and avoid being conned. Have you ever been approached by one of them?
My story: I was at the Hollywood during the day. The casino wasn't particularly busy, in fact, it was rather empty. I was sitting in a row of machines,
where I was the only person playing. Hubby was off in another part of the casino, and I wasn't exactly sure where he was, truth be told.
A woman, who looked to be in her mid-thirties came and sat next to me. She sat there for a minute, then asked me how I was doing. I told her I was "up
and down" on my machine. Then she began to tell me her "sob story." She said the money in her purse had been stolen. I told her how sorry I
was, and that she should go tell security that she'd been robbed. She said it wouldn't do any good. I was becoming skeptical. I'd be screaming
to the rooftops, if I thought I'd been pick-pocketed. She said she had no gas to get home. *red alert* Who coasts into a
casino with no gas in their tank? She tried to work me for several more minutes, and when she saw I wasn't taking the bait, she wished me luck, then moved
on. It was at least an hour later, that we were leaving the casino, when I saw her positioned next to another woman, who was sitting at a bank of machines,
with no one else around her. I knew she was being "given the business" by this same woman. I should've gone to security to alert them right
away, but I didn't - I don't know why.
There's every possibility that this woman could've been telling the truth. But I seriously doubt it. In her given situation, I would've contacted
security about the robbery, then called a relative to come get me, if I didn't have gas in my car to get home. Thank goodness I have a skeptical nature.
But I wonder how many kind souls have fallen victim to these scam artists.
Do you have a scam artist story to share?
